How to attach your images to matboards: A Step-by-Step Guide.

Step 1: Prepping the Photo Frame 

First things first, let's get that frame ready. Imagine you're doing a bit of yoga with your frame – it needs to lie flat on its back, upside down. It’s a bit of a balancing act, but don’t worry, the frame won’t complain about holding the pose. Open those tabs at the back with the grace of a seasoned yogi. You’ll feel a bit like a frame whisperer by the end of this. Take out all the components - backing board, matboard and acrylic glass. 

Step 2: The Great Unveiling of the glazing. 

Next up, you’re going to play a bit of peek-a-boo with the acrylic layer. This part has a protective layer on each side. Peel it off carefully – patience is key here. Remember, there are two sides to every acrylic, just like every story, so make sure both sides are peeled.

Step 3: Picture Perfect Placement

Now, grab your chosen artwork. This is the star of the show, after all. Place it face up. The matboard should also be face up. 

Step 4: The Tape Trick (Sticky Business)

Here’s where things get a bit sticky – literally. We recommend using acid-free tape. You don’t want your precious memories sticking around with the wrong crowd. Cut a strip, place it sticky side up on the back of the image. It’s a bit like setting a trap for the mat board – but a friendly one, we promise.

Step 5: The Grand Alignment (No, Not the Planets) - the matboard and image. 

Carefully align the mat board over your image. This step requires the precision of a cat stalking its prey (or a toddler trying to fit the right shape in the right hole). It’s all about getting the perfect frame window. Once happy with the alignment, press down gently on the taped area. It's like giving your image a reassuring pat, saying, “You’re going to look great on this wall.”

Step 6: Lock it Down - artwork, matboard, backing board into the photo frame. 

Finally, it’s time to put everything back into the frame and do a bit of tab dancing. The glass first, then the mat and image, finally secure the backing by closing the tabs, ensuring everything is snug as a bug in a rug. This part should be satisfying, like clicking the last piece of a puzzle into place.

And there you have it! Your image is now framed, looking as snazzy as a cat in a bow tie. Hang it, display it, show it off to your friends and say, “I did that!” You’re now officially a frame ninja.

In this tutorial, we demonstrate how to insert an image into a picture frame with a mat board. First, place the frame upside down and open the tabs to remove the backing board, mat board, and acrylic. When handling the acrylic, be cautious and peel off the protective layer from both sides, noting that one side may already be peeled.

Next, place the acrylic back into the frame. Position your image face up, ensuring that the mat board is also face up. We recommend using acid-free tape for this process. Apply a strip of tape, sticky side up, across the back of the image. Cut another piece of tape, around 5 cm long, and repeat the process. This secures the image to the mat board.

Carefully align the mat board over the image, adjusting it until it's correctly positioned. Once satisfied with the placement, press down to secure the mat board to the image. Then, reinsert the backing board into the frame and secure it by closing the tabs. This ensures everything is tightly held in place. Following these steps, your image is now neatly framed and ready to be displayed.
